About Jane Petro, M.D.
Dr. Petro maintains a diverse practice because she finds it intellectually stimulating and because she enjoys the contact with people and the opportunity to help others - whether by repairing a cleft lip or by enhancing someone’s self-image through cosmetic surgery. She has never narrowed her focus (for example, continuing to perform hand surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, breast surgery, and skin cancer surgery) because she believes that the skills used in one area enhance those of the others, and the variety of procedures keeps each day satisfying and rewarding.
Dr. Jane has presented at grand rounds at New York Medical College's Department of Surgery in Valhalla, New York and at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the Bronx. She has also served as a visiting professor of medicine at Syracuse University lecturing on "Anatomy, Autopsy, and Surgery: the death of curiosity". Dr. Jane has also spoken at a symposium on the "Augmented Breast", sponsored by the Westchester County Medical Society, in which she discussed the management of the implanted breast. She shared the podium with Dr. Susan Kline, Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at New York Medical College and Dr. Randy Steward, Director of Radiotherapy at the Cancer Center at White Plains Hospital. Focusing on her involvement with ending domestic violence, Dr. Jane joined the Board of Directors of "My Sister's Place" this past year. It is an organization that works closely with the communities providing educational and legal services to victims of domestic violence. It also supports a system of shelters throughout Southern Westchester. In 2001, Dr. Jane was a visiting professor in Accra Ghana, lecturing at the military hospital on Burn Management. She was also a visiting professor at the Korley Buh Hospital Division of Plastic Surgery discussing the recent advances in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
