About Jane Petro, M.D.

Dr. Jane Petro is an experienced plastic surgeon with a wide range of interests in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.  Her practice covers a remarkable range: she has performed pioneering work in reconstructive microsurgery and neonatal cleft palate, maintains a commitment to providing the best available care for burn patients, and is increasingly involved in the rapidly developing world of cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Petro maintains a diverse practice because she finds it intellectually stimulating and because she enjoys the contact with people and the opportunity to help others - whether by repairing a cleft lip or by enhancing someone’s self-image through cosmetic surgery.  She has never narrowed her focus (for example, continuing to perform hand surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, breast surgery, and skin cancer surgery) because she believes that the skills used in one area enhance those of the others, and the variety of procedures keeps each day satisfying and rewarding.

Dr. Jane Petro has had several honors bestowed upon her recently. In addition to being named to the Castle Connolly 2002 Edition of the "Best Doctors in New York", Dr. Jane was also named, in a poll conducted by Spotlight Magazine, as the top plastic surgeon in Westchester. The Spotlight poll interviewed a variety of physicians, asking them which doctor they would send a family member. Dr. Jane Petro was their choice. In October 2008, Dr. Jane was listed in the Westchester Magazine as one of the "Best Doctors."

Dr. Jane has presented at grand rounds at New York Medical College's Department of Surgery in Valhalla, New York and at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the Bronx. She has also served as a visiting professor of medicine at Syracuse University lecturing on "Anatomy, Autopsy, and Surgery: the death of curiosity". Dr. Jane has also spoken at a symposium on the "Augmented Breast", sponsored by the Westchester County Medical Society, in which she discussed the management of the implanted breast. She shared the podium with Dr. Susan Kline, Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at New York Medical College and Dr. Randy Steward, Director of Radiotherapy at the Cancer Center at White Plains Hospital.

Focusing on her involvement with ending domestic violence, Dr. Jane joined the Board of Directors of "My Sister's Place" this past year. It is an organization that works closely with the communities providing educational and legal services to victims of domestic violence. It also supports a system of shelters throughout Southern Westchester.

In 2001, Dr. Jane was a visiting professor in Accra Ghana, lecturing at the military hospital on Burn Management. She was also a visiting professor at the Korley Buh Hospital Division of Plastic Surgery discussing the recent advances in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
